Ladies and gents: It's been a while! I hope everyone enjoyed HBP! Do we want to try HPUO again? Or is it beyond resurrection?

twenty six days and counting! [20 Jun 2005|06:00pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Hey everyone! Hope you're having a good summer so far!

I thought I'd post and see what everyone's planning for the HBP release (a little more than three weeks away!), and have a thread going on what sort of events are going on around Eugene and where ever you might find yourself.

The UO bookstore is having a launch party with face painting, a wand shop, costume and trivia contests, and a 20% off sale from 9 pm to 1 am. Books Without Borders inside the Strand on 10th and Charnelton is also accepting pre-orders (support independent bookstores!). Borders has one too. I didn't see anything at Smith Family when I was there today, but I'm sure they'll probably take pre-orders too (has anyone else seen them using their old OotP boxes to store bought-back books? funny!).

Anyone know anything else that's going on? If you're not going to be in Eugene, where're you planning to be? (It looks like Powell's doesn't have anything planned, if you're in the Portland area.) Meanwhile, I'll be going here.

Can you believe it'll be here so soon?

Okay ladies (and gents?). Here's the deal - I finally went to the ASUO office to get papers to be all official and stuff. We actually need to have more meetings to go over everything, because we need some officers, some bylaws, and some John Handcocks.

The question is:

Do we want to meet this sunday evening at my place (which is literally across the street from the School of Music), or do we want to meet on campus during a weeknight?

Let's get this thing going!!

This is so us! [30 Mar 2005|11:52pm]

Hey - found this online - and felt that since we are college students in a Harry Potter Club - it totally applies!

How to tell if you are addicted to Harry Potter:

You make a wand and try to use it.

You call your least favorite teacher Snape.

You call your favorite teacher Dumbledore.

You wear robes to school or work.

You make "floo powder", get in the fire, and try to go to your friends' house.

You have read all the books more than four times.

You've been bookstore at midnight to get the latest Harry Potter book before all your friends.

... And then you stayed up all night wearing it.

You've worn a Harry Potter costume in public.

You have a crush on one of the Harry Potter characters.

You've gotten at least one of your friends addicted to Harry Potter.

You actually caught the "Wand Order" mistake before you heard/read about it.

You are upset at the New York Times for creating a seperate childrens best seller list because of the Harry Potter books.

Using clues in the book, you have attempted to find the exact geographical location of Hogwarts.

You have constructed a timeline of events in the Harry Potter books.

You have attempted to figure out the exact ages of all the Weasley children?

You have spent time contemplating which main characters will die by the time the series is over.

You've been to see all the Harry Potter movies on opening night. (Bonus points for standing in line in costume!)

You've read Harry Potter fanfic.

You've written Harry Potter fanfic.

You run a Harry Potter fansite.

You visit The Leaky Cauldron daily.

You've met other Harry Potter fans from online in real life.

You've participated in a Harry Potter RPG.

You've dreamed about Harry Potter.

You have a Harry Potter poster on your wall.

Each Halloween, there's no question what you'll dress up as...!

You've spent time doing a timeline to see if you would have been old enough to date a certain character when you were in high school.

You've vacationed to London, simply to search for the Leaky Cauldron.

You own a black lab named Sirius Black.

You've knitted a Weasley sweater or Harry Potter scarf.

For those 21 + [22 Mar 2005|10:52am]

We are totally going to have to try this. One of my HoH's came up with "The Gryffindor" drink. I'm thinking about "The Slytherin". Post can be found here. We're totally going to have to try this (off campus, of course!)

Hey, I'm not sure how into these you all are, but it's fun if nothing else - a cute little harry potter doll for y'all (i'm allowed to say that, I'm from Coos Bay). I made this one earlier:

And check out my new icon! (yes, I only have MS paint. It sucks).

It's kind of cool if nothing else, you can make male dolls too. Check it out! I'd love to see the dolls that you all make!

Hey guys!

The covers for Half-Blood Prince have been revealed!

American Version

British Children's Version

British Adult's Version

So someone on my friends list already suggested this, so I'm stealing the idea.

If you can come up with the funniest caption for the American version, I will give you a yet-to-be-determined prize. ;)

I just wanted you all to know of a few really cool sorting comms that we have floating around on LJ (and some otherwise HP related goodness).

castlehogwarts I'm the headmistress of this super active comm. We have a lot of rad classes, like Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, etc. I really recommend it, even if I am the headmistress. Take a gander!

hogwartssorting the original sorting comm! Run by Ruth who's in HPUO, blaze2242

hogwartshousing meh, it's a good place. Active.

hogwartspride another sorting comm. It's a good place.

hpbookfanselite not very active, but it's a fun place for the hardcore book fans.

amagicalworld it's my RPG game. Fun! Join!

heavenly_dorks Not really HP related, but it's a really active fun dorky comm. It's super active and super fun. Join!!

Okay, done pimping. The end.

So, I'm going home this week. It wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm going home on Thursday. I need it. If I don't go home this weekend, I'll go insane. Seriously. Nuts. Like, people will be like, "you remember amelia? She used to be kinda cool till she didn't get to go home and just completely lost it."

So I won't be doing HPUO this week. I doubt many people would.

How should we get it ready for next term?

Also, what is the best day? Monday and Wednesday are no good, but what about the others? Input, ladies and gents!!

Hey everyone!

I went into Scheduling to try to snag us a Century room, but they're all booked up due to Forensics (that high school speech contest thingie) until 11 o'clock tonight. Lame! And even if we'd gone in earlier, it would have been the same answer.

So how about meeting in front of the Century rooms? It's not quite the same, but we're a little out of luck here.

Edit: Guess not! Take it easy, everyone. <333

Hey --
I was just wondering, are we having a meeting tonight? And if so, does anyone know what room we're in?

ASUO stuff! [21 Feb 2005|02:21pm]

Hey everyone!

I went by the ASUO today and picked up some information on how to write the student group constitution. The person we'll need to talk to in the ASUO about it is Brandy. I was on my way to meet someone when I picked it up, so I didn't have the time to actually talk to her about it (then the person I was meeting was late and so now I'm in the computer lab as I wait).

If we want to have a mini-meeting somewhere and go over this stuff (or I can hand it off to someone), I can do that. This week isn't as busy as last week for me (thank goodness). I've already done some constitution work (for another group) earlier this week, so if you want me to start thinking up ideas and putting together a skeleton constitution, I can do that and bring it to our next meeting.

Feel free to drop me a comment, e-mail, IM, etc. if you have questions, ideas, objections, etc. My contact info's all in my userinfo.

P.S. RPG pimping! the_second_war is starting afresh and looking for a lot of people (including a lot of Weasleys and Hermione).

Also, ticklingdragons has some open positions. It's a really fun game with a lot of plot going on (all planned ahead!). There're some vacant roles (Lupin, Kingsley Shacklebolt, etc.) but there are also some open characters that have no in-game backstory.

Edit: Hah, it would be helpful if I spelled the name of the game right, wouldn't it.

I don't think any of us APOers are going to be able to make it to HPUO tomorrow. I apologize- we're all cooking for an APO event. This includes Sarah, Rose, me, Sheri (maybe), and others. If you'd like to call it off, please do so now, Meg. It's your call.

Sorry for the inconvenience ladies, this was just brought to my attention tonight. :-/

[16 Feb 2005|04:57pm]

yup. I suck.

Ladies, it looks like we have one of two options for tomorrow night's meeting:

a) have the meeting outside the Century rooms where all the tables are

b) steal a room if there are any available.

I'm sorry. This week has been effing hell. I can't do this alone, I need someone to help me and motivate me. I think I'm going crazy.

Should/Do we want to have Head and Deputy head? This is my baby, but it's also everyone else's.

Also, should we think about promotion? We aren't seeing vast improving numbers.

Just some food for thought. Please remember that the Hufflepuffs are on board this week for the activity.

Thanks everyone!

OMG is it really Tuesday? This week has gone by so fast!

So this week, we're in Century room B. Just to let everyone know. Spread the word!

And I have a friend who is terminal with Leukemia (the same kind I had, coincidentally). I thought it would be a nice gift if we all made cards/made a big card/somethink like that for her. I *think* she's into HP, and it would be a nice gesture. So maybe we could all sign one or make one? Any suggestions?

Any other ideas? Who wants to teach a lesson this week?

*snorts* I went into scheduling by myself and had to actually tell them what we were. I felt like a fool. We have one more week before we have to talk to ASUO.
